Recreation Programs

Exercise and Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis affects individuals in so many different ways that not one single program is right for everyone. This is why the Calgary Chapter offers a range of programs to allow you to choose the best fit for your level of ability.

Enhanced physical fitness (muscle strength, balance, flexibility, coordination)
Improved ability to learn and perform skilled movements
Increased mental and physical relaxation
Development of body awareness

The participants attending the Calgary Chapter programs report that the three main reasons that they attend our programs are for exercise, stress relief and to meet their social needs.

The MS Society offers a number of recreation programs.  They are...

Yoga
Fun & Fitness
Gentle Fit
Tai Chi
Bowling

The focus of our recreation programs is on Flexibility, Range of Motion and Muscular Endurance. There is also a focus on INDEPENDENT MOVEMENT. We encourage people to do as much as they can on their own so that they can develop their own program that they can do on their own at home. There are volunteers at some of the programs that can help enhance the movements and be of assistance.
