Family Resources Have you ever found yourself looking for specific information about multiple sclerosis in the family? Do you ask questions about the disease that no one else can answer, except for maybe someone else living with MS? Do you have feelings and thoughts about your parent’s MS or about parenting with MS that no one else around seems to experience? Developed by the Manitoba Division of the MS Society of Canada, these sites are unique in the cyber world, offering message boards and chat rooms for children and teens who have a parent with MS, and for parents living with MS. The sites are rich with information and support, with age-appropriate language and illustrations. Although relatively new, these sites have already captured the attention of kids, teens and parents from all over the world: from Canada to the United States and all the way to Australia. Access the site that is most suitable to your situation and post any questions you may have on the message board! Or if you happen to know the answer to one of the questions already posted, you can reply right away. Someone is really looking to hearing from you! All questions and replies are posted within 24 hours (during working days). Chat rooms provide an opportunity to exchange messages in real time. You can talk about the challenges faced by people living with MS and receive feedback from people in similar situations. An anonymous account ensures your privacy is protected. Parents can rest assured that their children are in a safe online environment. Both the message boards and chat rooms are monitored and reviewed by an MS Society staff person who ensures the appropriate nature of discussions. Please check the website regularly for chat room schedules. Connect with other people who have common experiences and concerns! After all, no one knows more about MS than other people living with it.
If you know of a valuable family resource that you would like to share with us, please let us know at info@mscalgary.org.
