What Do I Do If I'm Having a Relapse?

Page 11

If you believe you are having a relapse and your symptoms are getting worse, contact your family doctor. It’s important to determine the cause of the problem. Many things can make MS symptoms worse such as an infection. If your symptoms are related to MS, your family doctor will contact your neurologist or MS Clinic.

A true exacerbation of MS is caused by an area of inflammation in the CNS. The treatment most commonly used to control exacerbations is high-dose corticosteroids.

You may want to call the MS Clinic and speak with your nurse if you have any concerns.

Remember, your family doctor manages your general health. The MS clinic, your family doctor and neurologist work together as a team.
